East Haddon War Memorial

You may have noticed that since Tuesday of this week our War Memorial is looking something of a sad sight. The reason for this is that the slate tablets on which the names of the fallen are engraved were in danger of dropping out of their housings. In fact one of them did, onto the step beneath and split in two. I am pleased to say that this tablet can be repaired. The Parish Council's attempt to have the Memorial refurbished has tested our patience. We applied to the War Memorial Trust (WMT) for a grant. That was nearly 18 months ago. I kid you not! We are still in touch with them and hope that something will be forthcoming. In the mean-time we are having discussions with several stonemason's firms and would hope to have something meaningful shortly. We will keep you posted on progress as and when it happens both in this Newsletter and on the Parish web-site. Incidentally, in case you are wondering, the four slate tablets are stored in a safe place.
